Since the introduction of our new Cortisol Balance™ formula we’ve received a number of calls from doctors asking how to differentiate when they should use this formula as opposed to prescribing our Adrenal B Complex™ “ABC” formula.
Adrenal B Complex™ “ABC” formula is best for patients whose adrenal glands have become fatigued to the point that they can no longer produce enough cortisol in response to daily stressors. These patients will show low (or borderline low) cortisol levels on their adrenal stress profile testing. The patient often presents with a chief complaint of very little or no energy. They generally don’t present with sleep issues, and are tired most or all of the time. “ABC” is designed to optimize nervous system function and the endocrine system. It provides the full complement of B-complex vitamins, along with three of the most well-known and powerful adaptogenic botanicals: Panax ginseng, Ashwagandha and Rhodiola, to both tonify and address possible hormonal imbalances.
Cortisol Balance™ is ideal for patients who have symptoms of chronically elevated cortisol levels and/or who have elevated cortisol levels on adrenal stress profile testing. Normal cortisol levels are not detrimental. Its functions are optimally short-lived and meant to operate just long enough to address the offending stressor. Cortisol is beneficial and protective in controlling blood pressure, blood sugar levels, inflammation as well as strengthening cardiac muscle. A normal cortisol rhythm should peak in the morning hours and then steadily decline through the day with the lowest levels at night. However, when the body experiences chronic stress, the levels increase above optimal range. When cortisol levels become high, the message is sent, via the HPA axis/feedback loop, to the hypothalamus and the anterior pituitary that they are being overloaded with cortisol and production needs to shut down. If high levels are produced at night, sleeping patterns are negatively affected. Repairing the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis and having the production of cortisol be more effectively regulated is what our Cortisol Balance™ is designed to address. It contains two of the three adaptogens also found in our “ABC” formula (Ashwagandha and Rhodiola), yet it also includes two HPA axis regulators, Magnolia officinalis and Holy Basil. Phosphatidylserine, 5-HTP and L-theanine further address the HPA axis function and operation.
I hope this explanation brings more understanding to our new Cortisol Balance™ formula versus the Adrenal B Complex™ “ABC” formula. If you have any additional questions, please contact us at info@mpn8.com.

In other news, our Cholesterol Formula is being reformulated to meet the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) enforcement in the banning of red yeast rice powder (RYRP) as an ingredient to help lower cholesterol. At Mountain Peak Nutritionals it is our policy to adhere and comply with all FDA laws and regulations.
Certain red yeast rice strains are specifically cultured to increase the concentration of ten mevinic acids (also known as monacolins) that contain a natural form of lovastatin. The FDA declared that the varieties of RYRP that contain this natural form of lovastatin to be drugs and banned them. A federal judge overruled the FDA’s claim, but later a Circuit Court of Appeals overturned that ruling.
As a result, RYRP will no longer be a constituent of our formula. We have added higher milligram amounts of two of the more highly effective cholesterol lowering raw materials, Guggul extract that is standardized to contain 2.5% E & Z guggulsterones and a potent and powerful phytosterol complex. Our intention is to continue to offer an effective cholesterol reducing formula that also increases HDL’s and reduces LDL’s. We thank you for your understanding.
